Uschi Laar's musical activity as a composer and harpist is diverse and crosses many cultural boundaries. For the past twenty years, she has performed internationally with musicians from around the world.

Her roots in a family of musicians, years of training as a classical harpist, numerous journeys for educational and performance purposes in Germany and abroad form the basis of Uschi Laar's artistic oeuvre. Decades of immersion in a dialogue with the most widely diverse musical cultures have inspired her to evolve her own unique and extraordinarily sensitive style.

Her compositions reveal influences from the Orient, the Balkans, South America, and Africa. Other formative impulses are derived from jazz and contemporary music. Intensity, differentiated expressive forms, driving rhythms and delicate melodic lines combine to characterize her playing, which propels the music of the harp into unprecedented sonic dimensions. In addition to four CDs of her own, she has also performed as a guest musician on many other recordings, where she can be heard playing with artists such as Dario Domingues, Rüdiger Oppermann, Asita Hamidi, Ensemble Oriental, the jazz singer Susanne Schönwiese, Estampie Medieval music ensemble, Ramesh Shotham, and many others.

Uschi Laar was twice awarded first prize at composition competitions in France and Holland. She has composed music for four films and written numerous pieces for solo harp, as well as compositions for duo, trio, and quartet arrangements.

At workshops throughout Europe, Uschi Laar conveys her individual approach to the world of sound to professional musicians and interested amateurs. The founder and artistic director of the South German Harp Festival, she is the author of a series of books of harp instruction which explain and exemplify her didactic method.

For many years, Uschi Laar has engaged in an ongoing dialogue with various healers and shamans to collaboratively explore the healing power of music and sound. She shares this knowledge with interested people who attend her seminars.

Uschi Laar´s musikalisches Schaffen als Komponistin und Harfenistin ist kulturübergreifend und breitgefächert. Seit 25 Jahren spielt sie mit Musikern aus der ganzen Welt auf internationalen Bühnen. Sie ist Gründerin und Leiterin des Süddeutschen Harfenfestivals, das seit 15 Jahren jährlich stattfindet  und veröffentlichte eine mehrbändige Harfenschule.

Im jahrelangen Dialog mit den verschiedensten Musikkulturen entwickelte sie ihren eigenen musikalischen Stil, der sich in einem eigenständigen Lehrkonzept widerspiegelt. In ihren Kompositionen finden sich Einflüsse aus dem Orient, dem Balkan, aus Südamerika und Afrika. Weitere wichtige Impulse erhielt sie aus dem Jazz und der zeitgenössischen Musik. Intensität, differenzierte Ausdrucksformen, treibende Rhythmen und sensible Melodiebögen zeichnen ihr Spiel aus und lassen die Harfe in neuen Dimensionen erklingen. Neben mehreren  CD´s auf denen ihre eigenen Kompositionen dokumentiert sind, ist sie als Gastmusikerin auf weiteren Tonträgern  mit Musikern wie Dario Domingues, Rüdiger Oppermann, Ramesh Shotham, Roland Schaeffer, der Jazzsängerin Susanne Schönwiese, den Mittelalterensembles Oni Wytars und  Estampie, Gigi Biolcati, Dino Contenti, Paul Cowlan  und vielen mehr zu hören.

Uschi Laar gewann zwei erste Preise bei Kompositionswettbewerben in Frankreich und Holland. Sie komponierte die Musik zu vier Filmen und schrieb zahlreiche Werke für Harfe solo und verschiedene Duo-, Trio- und Quartettbesetzungen.

In Workshops in ganz Europa gibt die Musikerin ihren individuellen Zugang zur Welt der Klänge an professionelle Musiker und interessierte Laien weiter.

Seit mehreren Jahren beschäftigt sich Uschi Laar mit dem Thema „die heilsame Kraft von Musik und Klang“ und gibt ihr Wissen in Seminaren weiter.

Zudem ist sie Dozentin am Institut für altorientalische Musiktherapie in Wien.

La vita per la musica

Uschi Laar e un`insolita arpista e compositrice tedesca, sulla scena di circa 25 anni. Fin dai primi tempi ha demonstrato un interesse per la musica di differenti culture, ed in sintonia con cio ha vaggiato molto e lavorato con musicisti provenienti da ogni parte del mondo. Nelle sue composizioni si possono rawisare influenze di musica persiana e melodie indiane, ritmi africani e sud americani ed anche di jazz e musica moderna.

Intensita, un grande senso musicale e forte ritmi sono le maggiori caratteristiche della sua musica. Qualche volta lei suona forte, qualche volta le melodie sono veramente intense, qualche altra a lei piace sperimentare di diverse sonorita. Un nuovo stile della musica per arpa.

Da un punto di vista biografico vanno evidenziati i suoi numerosi concerti in Europa e tutto el mondo, in solo o con il Dario Domingues, Rüdiger Oppermann, Ramesh Shotham, Jatinder Thakur, Willi Lichtenberg, Asita Hamidi, Ensemble Estampie, Oni Wytars, Gigi Biolcat, Dino Contenti ecc.

E`solista e leader della Munich harp orchestra, organizzatrice di festival d`arpa e vince numerosi concorsi.
